Washington Street\, Easton\n\nScavenger Hunt Week 1 Easton\nScavenger Hunt Week 2 THS Campus\n \nThe Talbot Historical Society is calling all who are as fascinated by our local history as we are!\nThe Contest will begin on Wednesday\, July 5th\, 2023 and run each week for 8 weeks throughout the summer. Keep an eye out each week for the next Scavenger Hunt worksheet here on our website or on our Facebook and Instagram pages:\n\nFacebook link: https://www.facebook.com/talbothistoricalsociety\nInstagram link: https://www.instagram.com/talbothistoricalsociety/?hl=en\nThe first week will focus on history in Easton\, Maryland. Visit each of the four sites\, use the informational plaques at each site to answer the questions correctly and take a selfie for a free ice cream. Post your selfie on FB or Insta and tag the Talbot Historical Society for an extra ice cream voucher! \n\nRules and Prizes:\n-Visit each site on the sheet (per week)\n-Take a selfie at each site you visit\n-Answer each history question\n-Submit your contest sheet\nBring your completed sheet and selfies to THS\, at 25 S. SUMMARY:A Date With History: Annabel and Ronald Lesher Lecture
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nWednesday\, July 12th at 1pm\nSee Below for Reservation Details \n Join Annabel Earle Lesher and her husband\, Ronald Lesher\, as they read excerpts from three letters of Matthew Tilghman Goldsborough Earle. The letters\, written from Urbanna\, Virginia in 1931 to his son\, John Goldsborough Earle\, describe various business ventures in Easton\, Maryland in the 1880’s. M.T.G. Earle was the son of Dr. John Charles Earle\, one of the founding physicians of Memorial Hospital here in Easton\, who lived on a farm\, Brooklets\, at the southern edge of the town of Easton. In 1883\, upon the death of his brother\, James\, at the railroad crossing on Goldsborough Street\, M.T.G. Earle returned from Baltimore to try his hand at various businesses – selling coal and lumber\, managing a property insurance agency\, delivering ice for the iceboxes in homes and businesses in Easton\, and working as the cashier of the Talbot Savings Bank on Dover Street. He was joined in those ventures by William Dawson\, who would become his brother-in-law in 1888. \n  \nDate: July 12\, 2023 at 1pm \nLocation: 25 S.
