DESCRIPTION:3rd Annual Tench Tilghman Week Celebration\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				October 24\, 2026\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				9:00am to 12:30pm\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Come celebrate Colonel Tench Tilghman Week with members of the local community during a parade through the streets of Easton consisting of representatives from the Maryland Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR)\, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)\, Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.)\, Society of the Cincinnati\, Maryland Patriot Guard\, five Historical Societies on Maryland’s Mid-Shore\, American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Posts\, Boys Scouts\, American Heritage Girls\, Chesapeake Caledonian Bagpipe &; Drum Band\, Colonel Richardson High School Marching Band\, Chestertown Christian Academy (CCA)\, and more. \n\n9:00 am – Parade begins at Talbot County Courthouse; ends at Spring Hill Cemetery in Easton to honor Col. Tench Tilghman\, Gen. George Washington’s longest-serving aide-de-camp\, Matthew Tilghman\, the “Patriarch of Maryland” and “Father of the Revolution in Maryland\,” and all of our patriot ancestors.\n9:45 am – Grave-marking / wreath-laying ceremony at Spring Hill Cemetery to honor Solomon Barrott\, the last living Revolutionary War soldier from Maryland who died in 1851 at age 88\, nearly 70 years after the war ended. Ceremony will end with a three-volley musket salute provided by the SAR Color Guard.\n11:00 am – Guest Speaker\, Patrick K. O’Donnell\, historian and bestselling author of “Washington’s Immortals: The Untold Story of an Elite Regiment Who Changed the Course of the Revolution” at the Avalon Theatre. We will then board an air-conditioned bus for a tour of the island and visitor’s center. “Tours and educational programs at Poplar Island focus on details related to the beneficial use of dredged material to restore remote island habitat. Tours cover erosion\, the process of habitat restoration\, water quality monitoring\, and species diversity. Participants will also learn about cultural history on the Chesapeake from the 1600s through today\, including how in the past\, the Poplar Island chain once hosted a thriving Bay community and later a retreat for politicians\, including President Franklin D.
