Reporter\, Hank Goldsborough\, will be interviewing the outlaw gunner\, Ducky Marshall\, for the Easton Gazette. Learn about a time on the Chesapeake Bay prior to a collective initiative for conservation with Talbot Historical Society’s reenactors Mike Mielke and Don Casson. DESCRIPTION:A Date With History Lecture Series:\nBaseball on Maryland’s Eastern Shore: 1866-1950\nwith Marty Payne\nWednesday\, Oct. 23\, 2024 @ 1 PM at the Talbot County Free Library (100 W. Dover St.\, Easton MD 21601)\nMarty Payne is a native of Talbot County with a passion for baseball and the Eastern Shore. He has written and presented on this topic at national\, regional\, and local venues\, and is currently historian for the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame .Optional :(This includes presentations at the University of New York Symposium on Baseball and American Culture; the Conference on 19th Century Baseball at the National Baseball Hall of Fame; and the 50th Annual Convention of the Society of American Baseball Research.\, along with regional and local events). His writings have appeared in National\, regional\, and local publications. His book “Baseball on Maryland’s Eastern Shore; 1866-1950\,” combines his passions for a unique perspective of life on the Eastern Shore. His presentation will discuss\, but not be limited to the social and economic impact of baseball on the Shore\, the quality of play\, unorganized professional baseball\, the minor league era\, African American baseball and the Negro Leagues on the Shore\, all with an emphasis on Talbot County.\nThis is presented by the Talbot Historical Society in partnership with the Talbot County Free Library and will take place at the library located at 100 W. DESCRIPTION:Concert in the Gardens with the Mid-Shore Community Band\nSaturday October 12th\, 2024 @ 2pm\nEntrance to the Gardens between 25 and 29 S. Washington St.\, Easton\nBring your lawn chairs to spend the afternoon with us!\nThe Mid-Shore Community Band will play a free outdoor concert in the Talbot Historical Society Gardens on Saturday\, October 12th at 2 pm. The band\, which was founded in 2009\, is composed of volunteer musicians from across the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The band was formed to provide an opportunity for musicians of all ages and experience to practice and perform music. The band continues the tradition of town bands in the Middle Eastern Shore of Maryland. This concert will include a variety of pieces ranging from march classics\, favorite movie themes\, and spooky tunes perfect for the autumnal season. This concert is free and open to the public\, with donations gratefully accepted. A portion of MSCB funding is received from Maryland State Arts Council\, Talbot Arts\, Dorchester Center for the Arts\, and Choptank Arts and Culture Exchange.
