Tilghman will discuss the novel—which addresses themes of history\, race\, and legacy that are deeply relevant to our local community—with Shore Lit Founder Kerry Folan. DESCRIPTION:Poplar Island Tour – THS MEMBERS ONLY \nTuesday September 3rd\, 2024  \nWe are excited to offer the members of the Talbot Historical Society a personal tour of Poplar Island for the third year in a row! The boat taking us to Poplar Island will depart from their base on Tilghman Island promptly at 9am and will return to Tilghman Island by noon. Tuesday September 3rd\, 2024. \nPoplar Island Land Base (Meeting Point)\n21548 Chicken Point Road\nTilghman\, MD 21671 \nDetailed information will be provided for those interested closer to the tour date. Unfortunately\, they can only accommodate 24 guests\, so attendance will be limited. Please call 410-822-0773 or email kaylaw@talbothistory.org to reserve your spot as soon as possible. \nThe tour begins with a 20-minute boat ride to Poplar Island. We will then board an air-conditioned bus for a tour of the island and visitor’s center. “Tours and educational programs at Poplar Island focus on details related to the beneficial use of dredged material to restore remote island habitat. Tours cover erosion\, the process of habitat restoration\, water quality monitoring\, and species diversity. Participants will also learn about cultural history on the Chesapeake from the 1600s through today\, including how in the past\, the Poplar Island chain once hosted a thriving Bay community and later a retreat for politicians\, including President Franklin D. DESCRIPTION:A Date With History Lecture Series: Great Dames of Delmarva with Jim Duffy\nWednesday\, Aug. 28\, 2024 @ 1 PM at the Talbot County Free Library\, 100 W. Dover St.\, Easton MD 21601\nStoryteller\, Jim Duffy\, of Secrets of the Eastern Shore\, will share fun and fascinating tales of “Great Dames of Delmarva” in a talk sponsored by the Talbot Historical Society at 1pm Wed.\, Aug. 28\, 2024 at the Talbot County Free Library in Easton\, MD. His “Great Dames” talk will focus on fascinating women of Delmarva\, some of them quite famous and others little known. Several of the tales will have Talbot County connections. Duffy is an award-winning writer and author of six books that explore travel\, history and culture themes on the Eastern Shore and the broader Delaware Peninsula. Among his books are two popular collections of “Eastern Shore Road Trips” and “Tubman Travels\,” about following in the footsteps of Underground Railroad heroes. He appears regularly on the WBOC-TV show\, “DelmarvaLife\,” telling “Throwback Thursday” tales. Duffy will have copies of his books on hand for sale after the talk. Audience members are welcome to bring previously purchased copies of Secrets of the Eastern Shore books to the event for an autograph.\nThis is presented by the Talbot Historical Society in partnership with the Talbot County Free Library and will take place at the library located at 100 W. DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce our newest exhibit\, “Outlaw Gunner”\, based on the book of the same title by Dr. Harry Walsh\, gunner\, surgeon\, co-founder of the Waterfowl Festival and much more. This special exhibit chronicles the history of waterfowl and the Chesapeake Bay through the eyes of Dr. Walsh. On display are artifacts from Dr. Walsh’s personal on loan from U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Department\, artifacts from the collection of his son\, Joe Walsh\, and from the Waterfowl Festival’s collection. \nExhibit Location:\n25 S. These questions and many more will be answered through wonderfully enriching stories about Easton’s past.\nFirst tour: Starts at 11am\nThe tour guide will take you to various buildings within the historic district of downtown and explain the importance of the buildings in Easton’s history.\nSecond tour: Starts at 12pm (noon)\nThe tour guide\, Prof. Mike Olmert\, will take you to historic buildings on the Talbot Historical Society’s campus and downtown Easton while explaining the significance of the architecture of those historic buildings.\nALL TOURS MEET AT\n25 S.
