Baseball on Maryland’s Eastern Shore: 1866-1950

Marty Payne is a native of Talbot County with a passion for baseball and the Eastern Shore. He has written and presented on this topic at national, regional, and local venues, and is currently historian for the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame .Optional :(This includes presentations at the University of New York Symposium on Baseball and American Culture; the Conference on 19th Century Baseball at the National Baseball Hall of Fame; and the 50th Annual Convention of the Society of American Baseball Research., along with regional and local events). His writings have appeared in National, regional, and local publications. His book “Baseball on Maryland’s Eastern Shore; 1866-1950,” combines his passions for a unique perspective of life on the Eastern Shore. His presentation will discuss, but not be limited to the social and economic impact of baseball on the Shore, the quality of play, unorganized professional baseball, the minor league era, African American baseball and the Negro Leagues on the Shore, all with an emphasis on Talbot County.
This is presented by the Talbot Historical Society in partnership with the Talbot County Free Library and will take place at the library located at 100 W. Dover St., Easton, MD 21601.
