The Hill Research Center and Denton Extended Museum is located at 25 S. Washington Street. This building previously housed Tharpe Antiques, which supported Talbot Historical Society for many years until its closure in 2018.
The Research Center was named for S. Catherine Valliant Hill, who has been a volunteer and board member with the historical society for many years. Renovations of this building were made possible by a very generous donation by Catherine and her husband Thomas. The Extended Museum space was named for Lawrence Denton, who has been and continues to be an integral part of the life of the historical society. He was the director of THS for many years and continues to support THS as a board member.
The first room is the Denton Extended Museum Gallery. Our current exhibit is “Catching Shadows” , an exhibit about change, featuring aerial views of Talbot County, then and now. It is open from April to December 2022.
The second room is our research library, the Hill Research Center. There are two computer workstations available for researchers, which can be used to view our collections in the PastPerfect catalog. A small library is also available for in-house use, including books and files on local events, locations, and people. Our center conference table can also be used to view documents or hold meetings.
The back room contains our administrative offices.
Our “Catching Shadows” exhibit is open Wednesday- Friday from 10 am to 3 pm.
The Research Library is open Wednesday-Friday from 10 am to 3 pm, and is CLOSED Saturday.
