Which building do I enter?
If you are coming to see our rotating exhibit, or to use the research library, you will enter the Catherine Valliant Hill Research Center, which is located at 25 South Washington Street. It is the former location of Tharpe Antiques. If you are coming to see our permanent exhibits, you will enter the Mary Jenkins House located at 30 South Washington Street. Please use the side entrance, located inside the fenced in area.

The Talbot Historical Society’s parking lot is located behind the Mary Jenkins House at 30 S. Washington Street. There is a municipal parking lot directly to the right side of the Catherine Valliant Hill Research Center on Washington Street. There are 3 hour limited parking spots and metered parking spots that use coins.
Do I need to pay to visit?
Visiting our museum exhibits and using our research library is completely free! Donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to have a photo copy or high quality digital copy of a photo or document discovered during your research, there is a fee of $35 per photo.
Do I need an appointment to visit the museum?
You do not need an appointment to visit the museum. We only ask that your group size is under 10 people, due to the size of the spaces. If you would like to bring a party of more than 10 people, such as for a field trip, a large family, or organizational group, please contact us at or 410-822-0773 to arrange an appointment.
Do I need an appointment to do research in the library?
We ask that you make an appointment to use the research library, so we can ensure that there are resources available. You can call 410-822-1287 or email to make an appointment Wednesday-Friday from 10-3.
Do I need an appointment to visit the gardens?
The gardens are free and open to the public 7 days a week during daylight hours. This is private property and we thank you in advance for your respect of the space that the Talbot County Garden Club maintains for all to enjoy. If you would like to host an event in the gardens, please call us at (410) 822-0773 or email to set up a rental.
How long can my visit be?
We do not have a set length for research appointments or visits, but we are limited by the hours we are open, 10 am – 3 pm. If you are unable to complete your research during your first appointment, you are welcome to set up a follow up appointment to continue your research.
Do you have an inclement weather policy?
We follow the decisions of Talbot County Public Schools regarding weather cancellations. Their decision can be found here.
Can I take pictures in your exhibits and gardens?
You may take photographs, but please do not use flash, and be mindful of others around you. We also ask that you only use these photos for personal non-commercial use. If you post your pictures online, tag us at @talbothistoricalsociety! We would love to see them.
Can I bring my pet with me when I visit?
We ask that you please leave any pets at home. Service animals are permitted.
Can I bring in food or drinks?
No food or drinks are permitted in the museum or research library.

Restrooms are available in the Catherine Valliant Hill Research Center and Mary Jenkins House to our visitors.
Are your buildings wheelchair and stroller accessible?

We do not have a gift shop, but we have copies of the Easton Album by Norman Harrington available for purchase for $15, as well as photos from our photo collection for $35 each.
