Where History Lives
The Talbot Historical Society (THS) was founded in 1954, just two years after the Chesapeake Bay Bridge opened. Residents started THS to help balance the Eastern Shore’s historic, secluded character with future growth.
Today, THS serves as the county’s primary historical resource. Our extensive collection, research center, innovative exhibits, and educational programs delve into the history that influences today and forms the foundation of out cultural identity.
We recognize the importance of including the diverse voices and experiences that have shaped Talbot County’s history. THS celebrates the whole story, reflecting the richness and complexity of our past.
Our collections and research facilities are located within six historic buildings in the Easton National Historic Landmark District. At the heart of our campus is a one-acre garden open to the public during daylight hours.
Staff
Peggy Morey is the Executive Director of the Talbot Historical Society. Her association with THS began in 2016 as the Collections Manager. Overseeing the day to day operations at the museum, Peggy also works with museum staff, board members, committees and volunteers to promote the museum through its historic site buildings and collections.
Kayla Weber, Operations Manager, joined the staff in the late summer of 2021. She helps with the managing of collections, administrative tasks, and maintaining the social media and web pages. She is a graduate of Salisbury with a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language.
Patti Rockwell is part of the team that is archiving Talbot County’s history and enjoys connecting the photos, background, research and events that made up and enriched its past. Her background includes over twenty years of experience in advertising, marketing, photography and graphic design. She was the owner of Rockwell Design; a company that helped to design corporate identity and printed material for companies, and was the photographer for the Denver Nuggets.
In addition to her advertising experience, Patti has performed extensive genealogical research of her own heritage, which led to her position at THS. For many years now she has been a member of Ancestry.com, learning the vehicles of which to explore not just her own, but other’s heritage as well. Patti believes local history is what makes a community unite in spirit; this insight is what makes us who we are today. Anyone who knows Patti knows she is all about community and she thoroughly enjoys learning how each member of our community is a spoke in the wheel of local Eastern Shore history.
